Amy Lillard's Blog Relay and Amish Giveaway

Welcome to LEG #1 of the Courting Emily Blog Relay. This is the first stop with an excerpt from the book. I have to admit, as a complete passage, this is one of my favorite parts of the story.
Just a little set up: Emily has been coming over to the Riehl’s to help them. Elam’s dad was kicked in the head by a cantankerous milk cow the year before and he has been reduced to near childlike behavior. Even worse, he has problems, sleeping, walking, and with everyday activities, leaving Elam to serve as head of the family. Emily feels it’s her duty to help this family in need. After all, she’s the bishop’s daughter. But for Elam to admit that his family even needs support is beyond his tolerance, regardless of how desperately they do.
Hope you enjoy this peek into Courting Emily!

Elam took a deep breath as he came across the hill in the pasture and saw the buggy in the side yard. A deep calming breath. What was she doing here again?
Jah, his mamm had told him that Emily Ebersol would be stopping by today, but somewhere in the back on his mind, he’d hoped she wouldn’t show.
His heart pounded a little harder in his chest the closer he got to the house. He would have to apologize, have to come up with some reason why he had acted so surly toward her. He’d have to come up with something other than the truth.
How could he tell her that he had loved her for as long as he could remember, though he knew even longer than that she had been in love with Luke Lambright?
He couldn’t remember the first time he had ever seen Emily Ebersol, but he could certainly remember the first time he’d noticed her. She was ten and he was fourteen, in his last year of school. He’d tried so hard that year to gain her attention, but even then, Luke Lambright was the one she loved.
